Capital & Investment Coverage — $250 Million Series B
In September 2021, SmartLabs closed a $250 million Series B round led by ArrowMark Partners with participation from Winslow Capital, Onex Falcon, Breed’s Hill Capital, and Conversion Ventures. The financing was arranged in partnership with Morgan Stanley’s investment-banking group, which served as SmartLabs’ advisor throughout the process.
The capital accelerated the national build-out of the Universal Lab Framework and advanced the Lab Operating System (Lab OS) — a digitally connected architecture linking design, operations, compliance, and data across facilities.
At the time, the transaction ranked among the 15 largest private-equity and venture funding rounds globally, according to AlleyWatch and London Tech Watch rankings for September 2021. It signaled that investors had begun to view scientific infrastructure as a technology platform in its own right — scalable, capital-efficient, and mission-critical to innovation.
