Meet the Chief Encouragement Officer in Kendall Square — The Boston Globe

In this Boston Globe feature, reporter Robert Weisman profiled my role as CEO of Mass Innovation Labs and the philosophy behind its hands-on operating model. At the time, our facility in Kendall Square was home to ten biotech companies — each facing the same operational hurdles I wanted to eliminate from research entirely.

The article captures how we approached lab management with the precision of engineering and the empathy of hospitality — solving problems ranging from infrastructure planning and safety compliance to equipment installation and network design. That mindset of operational stewardship would later evolve into SmartLabs’ foundation: scientists should spend every hour advancing discovery, not managing real estate.
