Here’s How We Can Speed Up Drug Innovation — Fortune Brainstorm Health Conference
When Fortune launched its first Brainstorm Health conference, Clifton Leaf invited me to speak on a panel titled “Here’s How We Can Speed Up Drug Innovation.” Alongside Lesley Stolz of Johnson & Johnson’s JLABS and Jonathan Usuka of McKinsey, we examined how smarter infrastructure and data-driven design can reduce the time and cost of bringing new medicines to patients.
Our discussion centered on how adaptive research environments—like those pioneered at Mass Innovation Labs—enable faster iteration, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and earlier integration of digital tools. We also spoke about the early applications of artificial intelligence in drug discovery: from predictive compound modeling to process optimization, and how AI’s success still depends on access to standardized, high-quality lab systems.
